"Saw Rachael Ray and Oprah make this on an Oprah holiday party show. It took me 7 minutes, but who's counting! To give as a gift, wrap in cellophane and tie with a bow. Add an ornament or candy cane to make it festive. Variations include Recipe #146386 and Recipe #146387."

ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (save the can)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped (plus more for decoration)
  • 12 cup raisins or 1/2 cup dried currant
  • candied red cherries
  • candied green cherries, to decorate top (like holly)

directions

  • Butter an 8-inch round cake pan with softened butter.
  • Pour the chocolate and butterscotch chips, condensed milk and vanilla into a medium saucepan. Put the pan on the stove and turn the heat to low.
  • Cover the empty condensed milk can with plastic wrap and put it in the center of the round cake pan.
  • Stir the chips and milk until they melt together, about 3 minutes. (Make sure fudge is warm, smooth and shiny--warm enough that it won't set up instantly when you stir in the cooler nuts and raisins). Stir in nuts and raisins. Scoop the fudge into the cake pan all around the plastic-covered can in the center to form a wreath or ring shape. Let it be all bumpy on top. If the fudge moves the can off center, move it back in place.
  • Cut the red cherries in half with scissors and the green cherries into quarters. Use the green pieces to make leaves and the red to make holly berries. Decorate the fudge with several groups of holly berry sprigs made from the cherries and garnish with walnuts between the sprigs.
  • Put the fudge in the refrigerator and chill until firm (about a half hour). Remove the can from the center, then loosen the sides and bottom of the fudge with a spatula. Cut the fudge into thin slices to serve.

  1. My Oprah.com printout of this recipe -- which I love -- is dated 11/24/05 -- so you were quick in adding it! :) The only note I made to self is that 12 ounces of packaged semisweet chocolate chips is the equivalent of 16 oz. on 2-cup measure; I made this note because around Christmas time I buy my chocolate chips in bulk! Thanks, Sharlene-W, for doing such a great job of posting this fun recipe and its variations!

  2. Fantastic! I made this for a holiday party in the shape of a Christmas tree (I had a silicone pan) and used red and green M&M's as ornaments. It was a big hit. I wanted to take the leftovers home, but I it went so fast I didn't even get a chance to have a second piece. See my photo.

  4. Really good fudge considering how super easy and adorable these turn out. I tripled the recipe to make 2 wreaths because I wasn't adding walnuts or raisins and wanted them to be thick and at least 2 lbs. each. They ended up weighing in at almost 3 lbs. each so I guess the nuts and raisins don't add too much to the weight! They came out nice and thick and I used 8 inch foil pans. Thanks for posting...everyone loved them!

  5. Terrific, super easy fudge. I omitted the walnuts and raisins and it turned out lovely. I lined my pan with plastic wrap and the fudge popped right out. Highly recommend!

I live in the San Francisco area and love it here. I discovered Recipezaar (then Food.com..Genius Kitchen) in 2001 and have been so happy to have my favorite recipes stored safely here. I am mother to 7 and grandmother to 7. I love to knit, smock, sew, etc., but my favorite hobby of the moment is traditional rug hooking. This is a sample of what I do.? It's called "November".? I dyed most of the wool myself. It is made from wool flannel, cut into strips a little less than 1/4" and then worked into a linen backing. This is my 3rd rug.
